2011: The Good, the Bad, the Ugly

The biggest fashion and beauty moments of 2011 undoubtedly came from the two biggest weddings of the year. Kate and Kim couldn't differ any more in terms of style -- and as wives -- but both made showstopping brides.
If it wasn't the big white cheap wedding dresses celebrities were donning, it was a big red mane of hair. The fiery hue showed up in a variety of shades, on a variety of women.
We didn't see any notable men rocking red hair, but we did see a variety of them slimming down. From Jonah Hill to Carlos Mencia, it seems Hollywood no longer wants just its starlets super skinny.
Here's a rundown of the 2011 fashion and beauty moments that made us gasp -- both in delight and disgust.

CHOP CHOP
Where her hair is concerned, the biggest risk Jennifer Aniston ever took resulted in one of the most popular hairdos since the Farrah Fawcett feathers: the Rachel. Since then, though, she has stuck to long layers for almost a decade. That's why her sleek long bob made headlines earlier this year. You would've thought she slugged Angelina Jolie, people were so elated.
KNOCKED UP
Just when we thought she couldn't top that big reveal onstage at the Video Music Awards, Beyonce went and proved she could. The flowing orange Lanvin gown will forever be remembered as most fashionable maternity wear to grace a red carpet.
BIG RED
You couldn't escape the red locks in 2011. Khloe Kardashian, Blake Lively, Rihanna and Drew Barrymore all decided the redheaded stepchild didn't have it so bad after all. Rihanna held onto hers the longest and also went the boldest. Her scarlet red afro was the perfect topper for the daring diva's style.
THE DRESS
We waited months and months for the moment. When Kate Middleton showed 300 million viewers her dream of a wedding gown, the biggest fashion mystery of the past 30 years was solved: Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen designed it. Within hours, knockoffs of the lace-sleeved, full-skirted gown went into production. Only Princess Diana before her could cause such a stir.
THE OTHER DRESS
Kim Kardashian spent more time planning her wedding than she spent wed. And, the proof is in those three Vera Wang wedding dresses she wore. The most magnificent being the first: a strapless, princess gown and the crystal headpiece that adorned her forehead. Like her cleavage on her wedding day, she went all out. Too bad she didn't have the same approach to her marriage.
COLOR WHEEL
We'll credit, or should we say discredit, Katy Perry for this one. Hair color in shades like Smurfette blue and cotton candy pink just didn't rub us the right way. Lauren Conrad and Kate Bosworth both dip-dyed their hair blue, and Dianna Agron opted for an all-over honeysuckle look. We still don't get it.
SAY CHEESE
Lindsay Lohan should thank her yellow, decayed, chipped teeth. They did, after all, cause her to make headlines for something other than delinquent behavior. Still, the embarrassment took her straight to a cosmetic dentist's office. She flashed a sparkling smile two weeks later, about the same time she made headlines for another trip to court.

ON TARGET
Fashion designer's diffused lines have been known to spark shopping crazes before. That's to be expected when a name known for luxury suddenly has price tags in the double digits. But when the Missoni for Target line launched, no one expected it to crash the website. It was the first time a partnership of its kind delved into more than just womenswear. We're pretty sure it's not the last time, either.
HATE SPEECH
It was the end of an era for Dior when they fired longtime creative director John Galliano. But when fans learned why -- the legendary fashion designer made vicious anti-Semitic remarks -- no one seemed very heartbroken. And, when video surfaced with evidence of his ugly rant, Dior couldn't kick him out fast enough. Bigots are never in fashion.
DOWNSIZING
Could the same Hollywood pressure that leads actresses to turn into toothpicks finally be crossing over to their male counterparts? The ever-shrinking frames of Seth Rogan, Carlos Mencia, Jonah Hill and Jerry Ferrara of "Entourage" this past year made us wonder. We can't wait for them to start asking whether their butts look big, too.
HAT TRICKS
The royal wedding didn't just have us mesmerized with a wedding dress, it had us fascinated with fascinators. The over-the-top, decorative headpieces British women wear to formal daytime events got a global spotlight on Kate and Will's big day and left a lasting impression. Google searches for fascinators increased 67 percent and hat brands reported significant increases in sales, too.
BOOBIE TRAP
When gossip blogs reported Nicole Richie underwent surgery for breast implants, most people thought they were looking at "before" pics. Nope. The former reality star went under the knife for some very average-sized B cups. Kate Hudson did the same last year. And, rumors swirled that Blake Lively was before her. Ideal cups no longer runneth over.
